The Best Enneagram Books

The Enneagram can sometimes feel complicated and overwhelming, especially if you're not familiar with the tool (I recommend starting here to discover your number). I love these books—written by women and non-binary authors—as they approach the Enneagram through a beginner's lens.

Whether you've just found your number or have been on this journey for a while, each of these books is an excellent resource for further growth and deeper understanding—and I recommend reading them in conjunction with our favorite podcasts. And if you have a favorite Enneagram book, please share it in the comments below!

1. The Honest Enneagram

Author | Sarajane Case

Sarajane Case is the founder of the hit Instagram account @enneagramandcoffee. Her debut book is an excellent introductory resource for understanding the Enneagram and learning more about your type. I especially love the warm narrative voice and accompanying illustrations.

Review | This is the first book to read once you have a pretty good idea you know what your type is but are wondering, ‘what next?’ Compassionate, conversational, and full of balanced information about your strengths and weaknesses and how to grow and prioritize self-care in ways that correspond with your type.” ― Sarah R., Goodreads Review

2. The Complete Enneagram

Author | Beatrice Chestnut, PhD

In this comprehensive handbook, Dr. Beatrice Chestnut takes readers through the nine Enneagram types and the three subtypes for each number. This book is an incredible resource for understanding the depth of the Enneagram tool, as well as the endless nuances to each type.

Review | “I am especially pleased to see Chestnut’s credible research support for the renewal of this historic system in a postmodern setting. Work of this caliber invigorates the dialogue between science, mysticism, and psychology, streams of thought that have become estranged.” ― Helen Palmer, Enneagram Teacher
